IFS – INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (PARTS THERAPY)

IFS therapy, developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, views the mind as made up of distinct “parts” and a core “Self.”

Parts Include:

  • Managers: Control and protect. Keep you organized, safe, and in control. (Think perfectionist, planner, inner critic.)
  • Firefighters: React impulsively to soothe pain.
  • Exiles: Carry deep wounds, shame, or fear. They’re often hidden away but still influence how you feel.

The Goal of IFS: Not to get rid of any part—but to understand, heal, and harmonize them. IFS helps you:

  • Listen to your parts without judgment
  • Build trust between your Self and your parts
  • Heal the wounded ones so they don’t have to scream for attention

In a session, you might:

  • Notice a part that’s anxious or angry
  • Get curious about what it’s trying to protect
  • Let your Self connect with it gently
  • Help it release old burdens so it can relax

It’s like inner diplomacy—creating peace inside so you can show up more fully outside.

IFS sees your mind as a community of “parts,” like characters in a story. Each part has its own voice, feelings, and role. Some parts might be loud and protective, others quiet and wounded. And at the center of it all is your Self—the calm, compassionate leader within you. The goal is to help the Self lead and harmonize these parts, promoting balance and healing.


You will be offered a safe space that allows trust-building connection. This will help you to relax so you are able to release old ways of thinking and develop new ones. You will be provided a system specifically tailored to you, which offers insight, support, and accountability.
